PAIN AND HOPE

#ARTIST161 | YEMENI

Nada Alsaqaf is a talented photographer, graphic designer, storyteller, and instructor, holding a degree in art and design from the Lebanese International University. Growing up in Lahj, in the village of Alwaht, Yemen, Nada developed a passion for visual storytelling, particularly within the realm of humanitarian work. Her background in graphic design has allowed her to create compelling visuals that convey powerful narratives, and her work with organisations like Action Against Hunger, ADRA, and currently Oxfam, reflects her deep commitment to highlighting the human impact of conflict and displacement.

Through her work Nada encounters individuals deeply affected by the war in Yemen, many of whom are displaced, living in dire conditions, and facing severe hardships. Through her work, she seeks to share their stories with the world, offering a more nuanced and humanised perspective on the crisis in Yemen, beyond the stereotypical images often portrayed in the media. Nada’s dedication to her craft and her empathetic approach to storytelling make her a vital voice in the ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

Recognised for her exceptional skills, Nada was awarded the Portfolio Appreciation Award from Adobe in 2014, distinguishing her as the best designer in Aden during the Behance event. Her journey as a graphic designer has naturally evolved into a broader interest in visual art and storytelling, where she continues to merge her technical expertise with her passion for human stories. Despite describing herself as an “enthusiastic introvert,” Nada’s work speaks volumes, capturing the resilience and humanity of those she photographs and designs for, and inspiring others to see beyond the surface of global issues.
