Jesus Torio is an Andalusian artist whose journey into the world of art began while studying for a nursing degree in Madrid. After completing his degree, Jesus moved to the UK in search of new adventures and ended up pursuing a Master’s at the prestigious Royal College of Art. His artistic practice is deeply rooted in his life experiences, particularly his work as a nurse, which serves as his primary inspiration. Torio’s art is characterized by its exploration of color and abstraction, aiming to create contemplative spaces that invite viewers to find their own meanings and interpretations. His work offers a window to meditation, where the audience can engage in personal reflection.
Jesus’s artwork has been showcased in galleries and festivals across Europe, earning him significant recognition. His exhibitions include the Out of the Blue Photography Exhibition and the AOP Awards Finalist Exhibition in Edinburgh, UK, the Young Talent Dior showcase at the Arles Photo Festival in France, the Copeland Gallery in London, and the Meet You Festival at Teatro Calderon in Valladolid, Spain. In 2022, he was honored as a Laureate of the Dior Awards for Young Talents. He has also been a two-time finalist in the AOP Student Awards and a finalist at the British Photography Awards. Additionally, Torio was selected for the COCA Project Awards and the LensCulture Open Awards. Through his art, he delves into themes of depression, dementia, and everyday struggles, aiming to create a universal experience that resonates with viewers and assures them they are not alone.
For Jesus Torio, art is the most powerful tool of humanity, capable of inspiring and connecting people. He believes that the artist’s task is to produce work that makes others feel part of this world, exploring the unknown and creating new questions that inspire others to find their own answers. Jesus’s art is driven by an unexplainable need, and he often only understands its meaning after seeing the final result and discussing it with friends. His goal is to offer a meditative space where everyone can find their own answers, without the need for tags or explanations. For Jesus, the magic of art lies in its ability to evoke personal interpretations and reflections, making his work accessible and meaningful to all.
