Eddaviel is a multidisciplinary artist and co-founder of the think tank and publishing house, Mentes Extremófilas. A graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, his work spans a wide array of educational, cultural, and artistic collaborations, both public and private. Recognised for his creative contributions, Eddaviel was honored as a Distinguished Son by the Barahona City Council in 2015. His art has been showcased across the globe, including in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, the United States, Sweden, France, and more. His participation in major events, such as Afropunk Paris and the Caribbean Science Fiction and Fantasy Congress, demonstrates his standing as a key figure in the global artistic landscape.
Eddaviel’s projects reflect his deep commitment to exploring the intersection of culture, identity, and storytelling. Notable works include his role in character design and animation for the film Azul Magia, and his exhibitions such as Greñapunk, which have toured major galleries in the United States and Puerto Rico. He co-created Somnium, an immersive multimedia project blending art and technology, pushing the boundaries of modern artistic experiences. With its innovative approach, Somnium has garnered critical acclaim and won the Innovation in the Arts Award from the Rockford Area Arts Council in 2022.
Through his work with Mentes Extremófilas, Eddaviel has also made significant contributions to publishing, producing award-winning graphic novels and art books that highlight Afro-Latino-Caribbean heritage. His art, a fusion of magical realism and surreal pop, brings to life the rich, multicolored tapestry of the Caribbean experience, raising awareness of the political, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of Afro-Latino identity.
